I don’t agree with what I’m pretty sure is popular opinion for Skylines and Evos. Popular opinion seems to like the evo X. I prefer the Evo IX. Same with the Nissan skyline. Everyone seems to like the R34 GTR, when I prefer the more rounded front of the R33 GTR to the squared front of the R34 GTR. Am I just crazy, or do you agree with me?

Both Skylines look amazing, though I prefer the R34.

But I agree with you on the Lancer EVOs: IX > X.

I actually prefer the R31 and R30 when it comes to skylines.. as for the Evo.. hmm.. VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition please :) But I am crzy though.

Yeah, I don’t really like the way new car styling is going. I think that 50s,60s and mid 90s-mid 2000s are the best times 4 styling.

I love the R34 because of its technology... I love the R33 because of its looks. So I agree with you I’d take an R33 over an R34... but the R33 is kinda heavy.

R33’s have a special place in the hearts of many, mostly an age range who remember 33’s as being the pinnacle for a while until the R34 dropped. THAT was an interesting time. esp to be a teen. To think the 34 would truly be the last until we hoped maybe Nissan would realize its error and come out with something insane when we’re all grown up.

Japanese sports cars were at full chat in both US and Nippon markets. The 33 and the Evo’s always had a reserved yet professional handsomeness to them. I like to think they were designed around a young business man, who still looks athletic and healthy in his suit.

After that I think everyone tried way too hard in moving away from a basic sedan shape with whatever factory panache added in. I miss those. E39 M5’s, B5 Audi S8’s, The Lotus Carlton...

Evo X owner here.

A beat to shit, raced, abused, barely running IX will fetch about as much money on the used market as a pristine, unmolested, but lightly used X.

So the used market agrees with you, and I tend to too. That said, while the X’s look doesn’t tug at my heartstrings quite as much, it’s a more comfortable car to drive, and it was the way to get into a brand new example (which will be going away soon!).

Nah you’re not crazy, I too prefer the R33 to the R34, and the Evo IX to the X.

Regarding the Evo, the IX was way, way lighter than the X, the engine is stronger (closed deck vs. semi-closed, real power on the X will cause the heads to lift, etc) and overall I prefer the look of the earlier cars. It’s not that I dislike the X, it’s just not as cool :)

Sorry, I posted like the first or second ones on Google images without really looking at the rims, was paying more attention to stupid bodykits (or the lack thereof)
